“Dental Health Promotion” health talk for Chinese Older People aged 60+ at the Tung Sing Housing Association on 19th June 2012. In total 30 attendees.
Caroline Hardman(Health Promotion Officer) from NHS Manchester, was the main speaker. She spoke in English to explain how to brush our teeth, what type of toothbrush that we all should use and the importance of choosing toothpaste with fluoride. She also encouraged the audience to go to their regular dental check-ups with their dentist and not to eat too much refined sugary foods. Shirley He, the Nurse Operations Manager of CHIC interpreted for the audience in Cantonese. In total 30 people attended the talk.
‘Cervical Screening Awareness’ on 12-06-2012, 8 people attended.
This was held in Wu Kau Tang Chinese Overseas Association. Tara Davis, the Health Co-ordinator from the Public Health development Service of NHS Manchester was invited to give the talk in English. She explained the aims and encouraged women over 25 to come for the NHS screening when they received the letter. In total 8 people attended the talk.
On the 6th June 2012, a health talk about ‘Stroke and Hypertension Awareness’ was held in Little Yang Sing Restaurant. Dr. Kwok See, a GP, was invited to be the main speaker. She spoke in English to the causes, signs and symptoms, treatment and prevention of stroke. Do regular exercise and low salt, less sugar and oil intake diet were encouraged. Shirley He, the Nurse Operations Manager of CHIC interpreted for the audience in Cantonese.
In total 30 people attended the talk. 19 (73%) females and 9 (27%) males attended.
15 (50%) people was in the age group of 70 and over, 13 (43%) people in the age group of 60-69, 1 (3%) person in the age 45-59 and 1 (3%) people in the age group of 26-44 attended.
