2010 Summer Chinese Parents and Children

CHIC and the Ramblers Association jointly organized a four week Walking To Health Programme, specifically for Chinese parents and children in Manchester. The main theme of the programme was “Children Road Safety”, including recognizing the different shapes and colours of road traffic signals. Other activities including playing in the park, story reading and visiting local museum to enhance parents & children relationship. In total 28 people attended.

Piccadilly Walking to Health led by Jen Green, Project Co-ordinator from Rambler on the 3rd August 2010. In total 18 parents & children took part.

Stroke Awareness

On 28th July 2010 “Stroke Awareness“ was held at the Wu Kau Tang Overseas Chinese Association to a group of 34 people from the local Chinese community. Shirley He, the Nurse Operations Manager used Cantonese to explain the signs and symptoms, causes, risk factors, treatment and care management of stroke. She emphasized the importance to call 999 if anyone suspected to have a stroke by recognizing the vital signs of “F. A.S.T.”.

Osteoporosis Health Talk

Osteoporosis Health Talk on 20-06-2010, total attendees: 25

Venue: Chinese Education Cultural Community Centre

On the 20th June 2010, CHIC held a health talk in Chinese Education Cultural Community Centre. Shirley He (Nurse Operations Manager) gave a detailed presentation about ‘Osteoporosis’ in Cantonese. The signs of symptoms, causes, the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis were well explained. In total, 25 people attended. 4% (1) were in age group of 60-69, 32% (8) were in the age group of 45-59 and 4% (1) from age group of 12-15. 12% (3) did not disclose their age.
