“Hypertension and Stroke” Health Seminar with Warm Response from Local Manchester Chinese Seniors
On August 16, 2025, the Chinese Healthcare Information Centre (CHIC) successfully held a health education seminar themed “Hypertension and Stroke”, which attracted the active participation of 42 community seniors and received an enthusiastic response.
The event aimed to enhance the community’s awareness and prevention of chronic diseases. Dr. Yongyi Liu was invited as the keynote speaker, delivering a clear and engaging talk closely connected to seniors’ daily lives. Dr. Liu first gave a detailed explanation of the causes, potential risks, and effective daily management strategies for hypertension, emphasising the long-term benefits of healthy lifestyles such as a low-salt diet and regular exercise in controlling blood pressure.
The seminar then moved on to the core topic of stroke prevention and treatment. Dr. Liu not only introduced the different types of strokes but also focused on how to quickly recognize early signs of stroke using the internationally recognised “F.A.S.T.” signs:
F (Face): Check if the face is drooping, asymmetrical, or if the mouth is slanted.
A (Arm): Ask the person to raise both arms and see if one arm drifts downward due to weakness.
S (Speech): Listen for slurred or unclear speech, drooling, or difficulty understanding sentences.
T (Time): If any of these symptoms appear, call emergency services immediately. Acting fast ensures precious “golden treatment time.”
During the Q&A session, attendees actively asked questions and engaged in in-depth discussions with Dr. Liu about their personal health concerns. Each question was met with patient and thorough answers. At the end of the seminar, many participants highly praised the event, stating that they had significantly improved their understanding of hypertension and stroke, gained practical first-aid knowledge, and benefited greatly. They also expressed satisfaction with the seminar’s content
