2009 World Mental Health Day

A two day events were held in response to raise awareness of WMHD.An half day Introduction Mental Health Workshop was held at CHIC on the 10th Oct. 2009 and more than 17 people including staff, volunteers and members of the local Chinese community attended. An out-door Mental Health Awareness was held on 11th Oct. 2009 at Chinatown Manchester. A wide range of bi-lingual mental health information stall was set up and over 500 copies mental health leaflets were distributed. 50 passers -by visited the stall and 12 people received free blood pressure check.

Incontinence

27th September 2009, “Incontinence” health talk was given by Shirley He, Nurse Operations Manager in Cantonese to a group of 20 Chinese adults at the North West Chinese Language Centre. The different of urine incontinence, causes, treatment choices and care management and how to prevent urine incontinence were explained and the important of doing more exercise were emphasized.

Parents and Children Health Day

The main aims were to promote physical activity and well-being, enhance parents/children relationships and provide an opportunity for parents and children to meets friends to enhance social inclusion and share experiences. Despite the dull weather, the event attracted 21 people to take part (10 parents and 11 children aged between 10 months -6 years old) Health activities included health walking, creative art work and story reading. The help from volunteers was greatly appreciated.
