Self-Management of Depression

In response respond to the World Mental Health Day (WMHD) campaign, CHIC held two separate workshops one of which was “Self- Management of Depression” workshop on the 15th October 2012. This workshop was aimed to provide information and support to understand how to self-manage depression. Shirley He gave the health talk in Cantonese. Group discussions were used as a tool to facilitate the workshop. 10 females and 1 male attended.

中心分別舉辦了兩項工作坊,其中一項於2012年10月15日在中心舉辦“自我處理抑鬱症”。此工作坊的目的是提供資料及支持及有關怎樣及自我處理抑鬱症。是日由林姑娘主講,她用廣東活來講解有關抑鬱症的原因、症狀及預防。並用小組討論的型式來推動聽眾參與,其效果非常之好。有1 位男仕及10位女仕參加。

Diabetes Awareness Day

On 8th October 2012, Diabetes Awareness Day was jointly organized by CHIC and Diabetes UK. This health day was aimed at the Chinese community to raise diabetes awareness and how to prevent it. We were honoured to have a team of diabetes specialist nurses from Wythenshawe hospital to give health talks on diabetes’ complications and healthy eating in English. Interpretation was provided by CHIC. This event was very successful, and has achieved the purpose of the event. This event was jointly organized by the British Diabetes Association, many thanks to the volunteers for their assistance.

在2012年10月8日,此項大型的社區健康活動是由英國糖尿病協會和中心合辦。目的是提高華人對糖尿病的認識及如何預防它。並提供有關糖尿病各方面的資料,例如足部護理、糖尿病的風險評估因素。活動包括糖尿病的并發症的健康講座及有關健康生活方式、注意飲食及多做運動。我們很榮幸得到從威頂鎖醫院來的護士專員為大家用英文主講,由中心提供傳譯服務。
這次的活動非常之成功,完滿達到推廣的目的。今次的活動由英國糖尿病恊會及中心攜手合辦,並多謝義工們的恊助。

Hepatitis C Training

Shabana Baig (Project Co-ordinator of Hepatitis C Support Project of Greater Manchester) and Stewart Moors delivered a “Hepatitis C” talk in English. Shabana explained the causes, signs and symptoms, treatment and prevention. She explained the importance of Hepatitis C screening and prevention which to avoid blood transfusions and contact with blood, and to not share needles or razors with others.

2012年9月14日,“丙型肝炎的認知” 培訓,共12位員工及義工們參加。是日由莎賓娜. 碧(大曼城區丙型肝炎支持計劃統籌員) 主講。她用英語講解有關丙型肝炎病的原因、症狀、治療及預防的重要性包括不要與人共用剃鬚刀、他人用過的針筒器材、避免輸血及避免接觸血液。她還強調測驗丙型炎的重要性。

Community Health Walk-Heaton Park

On Monday 6th August 2012, the Chinese Health Information Centre (CHIC) organised a Community Health Walk in Heaton Park; aimed at Chinese parents, children and adults in order to promote the benefits of regular walking as well as strengthening parenting relationship skills. The adults also enjoyed the scenery, fresh air and exotic animals that grazed in the park. A picnic in the park was also arranged where the adults and children enjoyed eating in the embrace of nature. Furthermore, the children had a great time in the park’s playground as they played on the swings and the slides with their parents loving company. A total of 23 people and 4 staff and voluntary workers assisted this event.

Community Health Walk-Wythenshawe Park

On Monday 30th July 2012, the Chinese Health Information Centre (CHIC) organised a Community Health Walk in Wythenshawe Park; aimed at Chinese parents, children and adults in order to promote the benefits of regular walking as well as strengthening parenting relationship skills. The adults also enjoyed the scenery and the colourful flowers and wildlife that surrounded the park. A picnic in the park was also arranged where the adults and children enjoyed eating in the embrace of nature. Furthermore, the children had a great time in the park’s playground as they played on the swings and the slides with their parents and other children who were in the park. A total of 39 people and 6 staff and voluntary workers assisted this event.
