This health talk was given in Cantonese by Shirley He. She explained the causes, signs and symptoms, treatment and prevention of influenza. She explained the importance of taking plenty of rest, drinking plenty of fluids and taking appropriate medication to relieve symptoms including fever, headaches, coughs and running nose. Shirley encouraged audience to keep a healthy lifestyle and regular exercise.

On 14th February 2012, CHIC hosted the “Diabetes Prevention Awareness” health talk. Shirley He, the Nurse Operations Manager gave the talk in Cantonese, she explained the common signs and symptoms. of diabetes. Maintaining a balanced lifestyle and exercise were encouraged. Free health checks were also provided. Interestingly, 3 people were found to be overweight and were advised to see their GP. 24 people attended the talk.

Breast Awareness’ health talk at CHIC on 11-01-2012, 11 Chinese young mothers attended.
The speakers were Eleanor Taylor and Marge Pate from Breast Cancer Care Manchester. They highlighted the importance of observing any abnormal changes in the breast such as changes in size and appearance. Interpreting service was provided by Shirley He, the Nurse Operations Manager of CHIC.

On 20th December 2011, the Chinese Health Information Centre (CHIC) held a health talk about ‘Healthy Lifestyle’ in Kwok Man Restaurant. Shirley He, the Nurse Operational Manager gave a detailed presentation explaining the importance of having a healthy diet. She encouraged the elderly to eat more vegetables and fruits and do more exercise. She stressed to the audience to have low salt, fat, sugar and MSG intake. The concept of ‘5 a day’ was promoted. Overall 56 people attended the talk.
On 6th December 2011, the Chinese Health Information Centre (CHIC) held a health talk regarding ‘Understand your mood’ in the Chinese Health Information Centre. Shirley He, the Nurse Operational Manager gave a detailed presentation explaining the sign and symptoms, causes and prevention of low moods in Cantonese. She encouraged the elderly to go out more and include more vegetables and fruit into their diet. The concept of ‘5 a day’ was promoted. She also demonstrated to the audience some basic chair exercises to improve their mobility. Overall 25 people attended the talk. 3 males and 22 females attended.
