Parents and Children Health Day

The main aims were to promote physical activity and well-being, enhance parents/children relationships and provide an opportunity for parents and children to meets friends to enhance social inclusion and share experiences. Despite the dull weather, the event attracted 21 people to take part (10 parents and 11 children aged between 10 months -6 years old) Health activities included health walking, creative art work and story reading. The help from volunteers was greatly appreciated.
Located in China Town, the main aims were to raise awareness of different types of cancers, and provide bi-lingual leaflets about cancer information and their prevention. An exhibition stall was set up to distribute a wide range of health information leaflets including NHS smear test, breast awareness, NHS bowel screening service, healthy eating, regular exercise and healthy lifestyle and so on. Despite the heavy rain on that day, 30 people took part in the event, of whom 17 took health leaflets and accepted the free offer of having their blood pressure taken. The help from a group of community volunteers was greatly appreciated.
No Smoking Awareness Event at Chinatown, Manchester on Sunday, 12th July 2009. The event attracted 70 passers-by, of those 23 people took leaflets regarding smoking and health, 29 people had their blood pressure taken. 8 people had their carbon monoxide level checked and 10 people talked to the adviser about giving up smoking. After the event one community member was referred to the Stop Smoking Service. The event was supported by local Stop Smoking Service of NHS Manchester PCT. The help from community volunteers was greatly appreciated
“Menopause and Osteoporosis” health talk was given in Cantonese by Shirley He (Nurse Operations Manager) on 7th July 2009 at Wu kau Tang Oversea Chinese Association. 14 women attended.
